Bowen’s garbage currently goes to a Metro Vancouver transfer station. Certain materials are banned from their landfill. Bowen Waste is charged up to 50% extra per load if the load is contaminated with any the following banned items:




ITEMS THAT ARE BANNED FROM GARBAGE

§  Corrugated cardboard

§  Recyclable paper

§  Green waste

§  Containers made from metal or glass

§  Plastic containers (listed as recycleable)

§  Beverage containers

§  Batteries

§  Lead acid batteries 

§  Electronics and electrical household products 

§  Fluorescent lights

§  Lead acid batteries 

§  Radioactive and reactive waste  ie Smoke and Carbon Monoxide detectors

§  Thermostats


§  Styrofoam (White and Coloured)


OTHER MATERIALS THAT ARE BANNED FROM GARBAGE

§  Agricultural waste

§  Asbestos

§  Automobile bodies and parts 

§  Barrels or drums in excess of 205 litres (45 gallons) whether full or empty

§  Biomedical waste 

§  Clean or treated wood exceeding 2.5 m in length

§  Dead animals 

§  Excrement

§  Gypsum (drywall)

§  Hazardous waste 

§  Hospital office waste

§  Inert fill materials including soil, sod, gravel, concrete and asphalt in quantities exceeding 0.5 cubic metres per load 

§  Liquids and sludge

§  Mattresses 

§  Oil containers, oil filters, paint products, solvents and flammable liquids 

§  Metal household or commercial appliances

§  Pesticide products

§  Pharmaceuticals 

§  Propane tanks

§  Refuse that is on fire, smouldering, flammable or explosive
